More Kalines

In 2018 I bought one hobby box of Allen & Ginter at a card show.  My best finds at that show were the two Acuna and two Ohtani Topps Chrome RCs from the two boxes of Topps Chrome I bought; or so I thought. Flip to 2021 and I run across the Brooklyn Back Mini (09/25) Cryptocurrency card I got out of that A&G box.  I knew it had value as a Brooklyn Back but holy $#%$ I was not expecting what I found on Ebay. Deciding that I needed to get tires, tune-up etc. for my car I listed the card with a ridiculous (to me) Buy It Now amount and sold it within an hour.  A week and a half later, after shipping and delivery, I got a nice amount of funds in my checking account. I got the car repair done this past Saturday but also have made four card purchases in the Beckett Marketplace for some PC fills. The first to arrive in the mail is some more Al Kaline's to try and complete my run of his standard sized cards. Here is a lovely 1959 Topps All-Star card of our favorite De...

The Other Thing I Found

When I found those Topps Super football cards there was this lovely Calvin Murphy rookie card from 1970-71 Topps with them. Like the Topps set from the year before tese cards were about 40% taller than a standard card.  The colors on the back are pretty much identical to the Topps Super football cards from the same year.  Either these were hot colors in 1970 or Topps had way too much of this orange color ink combo, I already had several cards from this set.  Here are the best ones. ============================================= Comment on the photography.  I suck at taking pictures with my phone.  I apologize.

They're Super!

I was going through a storage bin to see what I could get rid of and came across some 1970 Topps Super football cards I had no idea I had.  There are a few Hall of Famers in this group so I was happily surprised. I think a hobby shop owner gave them to me when I bought some boxes a few years ago but I'm not sure. The cards are bigger than normal cards and on very thick stock. Here's what I came across. Card Number 3 - Bart Starr The white card is there to provide perspective on the size of the Super cards. This is my only Bart Starr card from when he was active. Here is the card back.  It's set up like a regular 1970 Topps card with the same color scheme. 7 - Deacon Jones 8 - Leroy Kelly 11 - Carl Eller All three of these guys are in the Hall of FameD. 14 - Dick Butkus 22 - Gayle Sayers Two more Hall of Famers.  The Bears drafted them back-to-back in 1965. .  23 - Tom Woodeschick 31 - Joe Kapp The only two players in the gro...

Mission To Mars Card Pages Part 4

To recap:  These are the cards I would take with me if I could take ten 9-card pages with me to Mars. I decided that each part of my collection cannot have more than one page.  The cards must fit into a regulation page as far as height and width but I am taking liberties with how thick some of the cards are. And now for some good old American football: 1911 T51 Murad College Series Michigan football. 'Nuff said. 1970 Kellogg's #13 This card represents three things in my sheet.  Detroit Lions, Kellogg's cards and Blazing Saddles.  I had forgotten that there was such thing as Kellogg's football cards until I found this at a show. 1993 Upper Deck #481 As far as I know, Robert is the only player from my high school ever featured on a card.  Go Angoras! 1999 TK Legacy TK Legacy produced a wonderful set of Michigan Wolverine stars.  This is my only autograph from the set.  If anyone out there has some regular cards or autos...

Braves A - Z: The Other Aaron

Tommie Aaron was the brother of Hank.  He played for the Braves from 1962 to 1971 with the exception of 1964, 1966 and 1967 which he spent in the minors.  Was the International League MVP in Richmond in 1967. Tommie was the first Aaron brother to play in Atlanta as a member of the Crackers in 1965. Topps used the same picture in 1963 and then six years later in 1969 which is odd but the 1969 card is my favorite.   I still need the 1964 and 1971 cards.  The 1964 is a major need as I plan on completing the complete 1964 set after I finish my 1976.  The 1971 is a high number short print and will require a good price for my to get it. After years as a minor league manager and a major league coach Tommie succumbed to leukemia in 1984 at the age of 45.

Braves A to Z - Starting With The Best

I decided to organize my Braves collection by player since scanning and posting by year makes me try to come up with different things to say about the same player. I have literally do have cards from A and Z (Zuvella) to post about.  Some posts will be dedicated to one player if I have enough of their cards and they merit their own post. David Aardsma is the first major league player alphabetically but the first hitter listed is Henry Aaron.  Braves fans still consider Aaron the true Home Run King.  Turner Field is located at 755 Hank Aaron Blvd. That is until they move to Cobb County in a couple of years and I stop watching them.  (Yes, I feel that strongly about it.) I picked up most of my early Aaron cards by trade at my favorite card show and have gotten some in trades from other bloggers.  The condition of most is far from perfect but considering my budget and desire to complete years I'll worry about condition later on.  All of the cards on th...
