A Blaster From The Past

Ok, it's not actually from the past but the card designs are.

I have not been actively collecting lately but 2015 Topps Archives includes the 1976 Topps design so I had to get blaster and see what is what. Cards 1 - 100 are in the 1957 design, 101 - 200 in the 1976 design and 201 - 300 in the 1983 design.

Pack 1

37 Jhonny Peralta - The "h" right after the "J" always confuses me.
47 Henderson Alvarez
50 Ken Griffey Jr.
105 Joe DiMaggio
139 Michael Wacha
149 Hunter Pence
169 Jon Lester
275 Ted Williams
299 Mark Trumbo
300 Willie Mays

The cards did not come out of the pack in numerical order.  By mistake I sorted them before posting.  This is great mix of all-timers in this pack.  The 1957, 1976, and 1983 are three of my favorite designs so I'm hyped so far.

Pack 2

220 Jay Bruce
18 Homer Bailey
171 Ian Desmond
PGGWB George W Bush Presidential Chronicles - not a fan
19 Hisashi Iwakuma
148 Hyun-Jin Ryu
281 Hanley Ramirez
123 Anibal Sanchez
206 Alex Gordon
62 Robin Roberts

Not a great pack for me.

Pack 3

259 J.D. Martinez
94 Dellin Betances
114 Doug Fister
104 Kolten Wong
20 Josh Hamilton - the Angels blew it by letting him go
223 Justin Upton - stupid Braves!
91 Kevin Kiermaier
181 Harmon Killebrew
284 Jim Palmer
97 Juan Gonzalez

Another "meh" pack

Pack 4

246 Dustin Pedroia
7 Michael Pineda
138 Paul Goldschmidt
108 Matt Carpenter
219 Kurt Suzuki
56 Sonny Gray
168 Mark McGwire
252 Luis Aparicio
11 Bo Jackson
115 Barry Larkin

Another nice assortment of greats

Pack 5

241 Mike Napoli
48 Victor Martinez
185 Zack Greinke
177 Rickey Henderson Gold Parallel 17/50
161 Xander Bogaerts
231 Taijuan Walker
51 Yan Gomes
225 Bryce Harper
32 Robin Yount
134 Duke Snider

Gold Parallels are 1:47 packs

Pack 6

204 Wily Peralta
53 Roberto Alomar
125 Babe Ruth
WF2 Will Ferrell Mariners
135 Michael Taylor
250 Mike Trout
6 Alexei Ramirez
213 Brooks Robinson
35 Eddie Murray
197 Bob Lemon

Not sure how I feel about the Will Ferrell cards but I least this one is in the 1957 design.

Pack 7

202 Johnny Bench
88 Lenny Dykstra
189 Roberto Clemente
245 Garrett Richards Silver Parallel 071/199
130 Aramis Ramirez
278 Alex Cobb
52 Dilson Herrera
214 Orlando Cepeda
43 Alcides Escobar
195 Adrian Beltre

Lenny Dykstra?!?

Pack 8

273 Orlando Hernandez
85 Maikel Franco
182 Christian Walker
32 Anthony Rizzo 1968 Topps Game Insert
106 Brandon Finnegan
253 Whitey Ford
78 Gary Carter
272 Adrian Gonzalez
89 C.J. Wilson
116 Carlos Carrasco

1968 Topps Game is one of my favorite sets so I love the inclusion here.

In summary:
No current Braves...... (I'm not sure if I'm sad about this)
Lenny Dykstra?!?!?
I like the 3 designs they used
No shortprints but 2 parallels
They don't include all if the years of stats for the greats (14 - 16 years depending on design) = annoying
I didn't get the George Brett card (#75)

I must have more!

I Think I'm Done

I'm at the point that I am not feeling the trading card hobby anymore.  It is too much.  The ridiculousness of people fighting over cards at Target or Walmart even when the stores have jacked the prices up and the insane focus on spending money to have everything "slabbed" just has completely turned me off.  I have tried to focus on the vintage cards I've collected the last couple of years and the autographs and memorabilia pieces I have from some of my favorite shows and movies but I no longer have the desire to open a pack of new cards. Maybe someday if I become independently rich I will continue collecting vintage cards to add to my Tigers and Braves collections or buy rare autographs from Star Wars or Games of Thrones or some other pop culture sets but that time is not right now as living paycheck to paycheck does not make that possible. I have away the huge stack of boxes that I had full of cards, probably 200,000 cards, over the summer by putting them out by th

It's All About George

Welcome back everybody! A friend of mine who asked me why I didn't restart SCAMB so I decided to take the suggestion since he is a professional writer.  I'm not saying this is great literature though. I've been looking for topics for the relaunch and have a few in mind, but to start I wanted to highlight my number one player collection. I've been a George Brett fan since I saw him play at Tiger Stadium in 1980.  He hit a home run and got into a brawl in the game.  I was hooked. Like many collector's I've been going through my cards and other things during all of the extra time I've had at home and came upon two card albums.  I think they came with Topps Attax kits that I bought randomly.  They each have 26 pages so I decided to put my Brett cards in them and discuss each page in an installment. This will be a long term series that will be interspersed with other topics as I find cards I didn't know I had or want to highlight my favorit

I've Done It My Way

I'll get back to my 1965-1969 Baseball Card favorites next time but today I want to explore all of the other places in my collection.  When I say that I have bought a pack of everything in my life I mean every type of sport I could get my hands on. Here are a few examples: Basketball: 1952 Wheaties Jim Pollard - This set had a portrait and action shot of each player,  No idea where I picked it up but I think it is cool. CCGs: 1 995 Lord of the Rings.  I have the One Ring.  I am a nerd. Football: I have 5 Autographed Joe Montana cards from the mid-1990's.  Someday I will get them authenticated and if they are legit I will give a big thank you to the person that gave them to me at no cost. Golf: I bought a lot of base Upper Deck Golf in the early 2000's.  This is the only Gold Parallel I have from the 2002 set. Hockey: I bought a full sets of 197-79 and 80-81 Topps Hockey in the mid-80's (instead of opting for the 1979-80) .  The 80-81 had this stupid scratch off stuff o
